Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Preventive Care

Preventive care

Dr. Kubieniec recommends most patients see a dentist and dental hygienist at least once every six months so they can benefit from meticulous cleanings, a thorough examination of teeth and gums, oral cancer screening, oral hygiene recommendations, and proper home care and nutritional advice.

Regular visits empower and motivate patients with the best oral hygiene tactics and tools so they can take great care of their teeth. Using a preventive approach to oral health also significantly reduces tooth decay and the progression of gum disease. Poor oral hygiene, meanwhile, can cause oral infections, tooth and bone loss, and is highly linked to ailments such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Dental Hygienists and Dental Cleanings

Dental hygienists and dental cleanings

Dental hygienists are licensed dental professionals in the province of Ontario, regulated by the Ontario Dental Hygiene Association. Our hygienists have excellent training in the prevention and treatment of oral disease, and are known for their thorough and gentle teeth cleaning. Alongside Dr. Kubieniec, they help develop the most appropriate treatment plan for every patient.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Bonding and Aesthetics

Bonding and aesthetics

Bonding uses a chemical to permanently attach an enamel-like resin to a tooth’s surface, sculpting it to resemble the beautiful anatomy of the tooth and matching as closely as possible to the colour of surrounding teeth. Dr. Kubieniec uses this method to treat front teeth that are chipped, malformed, stained or rotated. Patients often choose this option over more expensive restorations, such as porcelain veneers, crowns or lengthy orthodontics – the reward is immediate and the cost is significantly lower. Please check our smile gallery.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Bonded Fillings

Bonded fillings

Just like bonding can improve the appearance of front teeth, a patient’s back teeth can also look beautiful. As a welcome alternative to mercury fillings, Dr. Kubieniec uses tooth-coloured fillings – made of a composite material that is durable and aesthetically pleasing – to rebuild the shape and the function of the tooth via chemical bond.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Crowns

Crowns

A crown completely caps a tooth and comes in many different materials (gold, porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and zirconium). Crowns can improve the aesthetics of misshaped, discoloured or damaged teeth and make the smile beautiful. Crowns can also protect teeth treated with root canals, a large filling, or an implant.

Making a crown requires two visits. At the first visit, Dr. Kubieniec shapes the tooth in all dimensions to make room for the crown, creates an imprint of the crown and places a temporary crown over the tooth.

The crown is made in a laboratory and delivered two weeks later for the second visit, when Dr. Kubieniec cements the permanent crown in place.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Extractions

Extractions

When damaged or decayed beyond repair, or endangering surrounding structures (for example, wisdom teeth), a tooth may need to be removed. Dr. Kubieniec will discuss the options for replacing the tooth before extraction and will advise on the best solution: implant, bridge or denture.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy

A tooth compromised by large decay, cracking, or trauma can become infected and treating the infection prevents extraction or serious medical complications. Root canal therapy removes the infected pulp (made up of blood vessels, nerve tissue and cellular entities) inside the tooth, decontaminates and then fills the remaining hollow space with gutta-percha.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Bridges

Bridges

If you are missing a tooth, Dr. Kubieniec can permanently join an artificial one to the adjacent teeth.

A bridge requires two visits. At the first visit, if your natural teeth support the bridge, Dr. Kubieniec shapes those teeth to make space for the new bridge. Then, she creates an imprint of the new tooth and fits a temporary bridge in place.

The bridge is made in the laboratory and delivered 2 weeks later for the second visit, when Dr. Kubieniec cements the permanent bridge in place. Dr. Kubieniec can also create bridges on implants, using special, implant parts.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Dental Implants

Dental implants

When a patient loses one or more teeth, Dr. Kubieniec can insert a titanium implant, resembling the root of the tooth, into the jawbone. Over several months, the implant creates an intimate biological bond with the bone through a process called osseointegration – and once complete, Dr. Kubieniec can build a crown, bridge or denture on top of the implant.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Partial and Complete Dentures

Partial and complete dentures

Dentures (also known as false teeth) replace missing teeth. When all the teeth are missing, a complete denture uses the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the mouth for support. When only some teeth are missing, a partial denture uses clasps that fit onto neighbouring teeth or implants. Making a denture requires several appointments to ensure a perfect fit.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry

Improvements to your teeth and gums can result in a more beautiful smile. If a patient has a concern about the appearance of their smile, Dr. Kubieniec may recommend anything from simple teeth whitening or resin bonding to more sophisticated restorations, such us porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges or implants. In some cases, patients may require the intervention of an orthodontist or gum specialist (periodontist). Dr. Kubieniec fully explains the complexity, time involved and cost of the procedures, and together with the patient, decides on the final approach.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening

While over the counter products are often too weak to remove resistant stains, professional options can effectively enhance the esthetics of stained teeth. Dr. Kubieniec applies a bleaching agent (carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) to the front surface of the teeth. She then activates the Carbamide by leaving a curing light or laser on the teeth for about 45-60 minutes and completely supervises the entire process. Alternatively, Dr. Kubieniec offers a home whitening solution involving custom-made whitening trays and gels used over ten to fourteen days.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers

When teeth do not respond well to whitening procedures or bonding, veneers (very thin, custom-made, porcelain laminates, made in the dental laboratory and bonded directly to the teeth) are an excellent way to enhance the shape or change the colour of the teeth.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide

Some patients who feel anxious about dental procedures (including children) or have a strong gag reflex, can benefit from using nitrous oxide or laughing gas. The patient wears a comfortable nose mask and breathes an odourless mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen that offers both anaesthetic (numbing) and analgesic (painkilling) properties. Patients begin to feel euphoric and relaxated almost immediately, allowing them to remain calm throughout the appointment. At the end of the procedure, Dr. Kubieniec administers 100 percent oxygen to reverse all effects of the nitrous oxide. Most patients can resume their usual activities without the lingering effects associated with oral sedation, intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Digital Radiography

Digital radiography

All operatories are fully equipped with digital radiography, which reduces radiation by 85 percent. Digital x-rays give Dr. Kubieniec and her patients an instant view of the images on a television screen, allowing them to discuss the findings and determine if there are issues that need to be treated or monitored until the next visit.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Intra-Oral Camera

Intra-oral camera

This precision optical instrument captures images of teeth and soft tissue, and displays them on the television screen to help patients understand the dental concerns at hand, as well as suggested solutions. Dr. Kubieniec uses the camera for patient education purposes, to record teeth and gum disease, monitor soft tissue health, demonstrate various steps involved in dental procedures, and record before-and-after pictures. Patients feel confidence in Dr.Kubieniec, who is proud to display the quality of her work.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec – Services – Mouth Guards

Mouth guards

A mouth guard is a protective device made of thick rubbery material covering the teeth and bone, helping athletes playing contact sports reduce injury to these structures.

Dr. Kinga Kubieniec Dentistry – Services – Bruxism Appliance (Night Guards)

Bruxism appliance (night guards)

Bruxism (excessive teeth grinding or jaw clenching) puts anywhere from 10 to 100 times more pressure on the teeth than chewing, which can cause excessive tooth wear, fractures, hypersensitivity, and loosening; overdevelopment of the jaw muscles; pain, tenderness or clicking of the jaw joints; and headaches. It usually happens while sleeping, which is why most people don’t even know they do it.

Dr. Kubieniec will discuss ways to alleviate the effects of bruxism and prescribe an occlusal splint or night guard (a hard, custom-fitted, plastic cover) to protect the teeth while sleeping.
